Green Building and LEED AP Consultancy
Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEEDÒ) is a third-party “green building” rating system designed to evaluate the sustainable design, construction and operation of a project from a holistic perspective. LEED was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to differentiate buildings that demonstrate a commitment to sustainable design, thereby reducing negative environmental impacts of a project, improving building performance and providing a healthy, productive and profitable environment in which to live and work.
The LEED certification of a project follows a 4-tier rating levels scaled from Certified to Platinum level. The certification program focuses on five main categories: - Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources and Indoor Environmental Quality. The LEED portfolio is based on several project specific rating systems:
· New Construction
· Existing Buildings
· Commercial Interiors
· Core & Shell
· Homes
· Neighbourhood Development
· Schools
· Retail
LEED has now become the de facto global “green building” rating system, and since its conception in 2000 now encompasses more than 22,000 registered and certified projects in over 90 countries. The positive business, economic, environmental and health benefits of LEED certification are now recognized by developers and funders in most ASEAN member states such as Thailand, which as of July 2009 has 16 projects registered or certified.
Green building does not necessarily have to come with a high price tag. Innovative, and often simple, modifications to construction and services design can lessen their impact on our environment through energy and resource efficiency. Relatively simple passive solutions in tropical countries include; sun shading, building orientation/placement, solar reflective paints, greywater treatment and reuse, green roofs, use of lower thermal mass materials, rainwater harvesting, use of sustainably sourced and recycled materials, natural ventilation systems (such as solar chimneys) and recycled and non toxic building and finishing materials. More active solutions include the use of solar panels, biomass boilers, air con waste heat capture and utilization and wind turbines.
SLP Environmental provide sustainable green building consulting services delivered by LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED AP) who have demonstrated a detailed understanding of the LEED certification requirements, processes and practises, and have an integrated knowledge of environmentally sustainable design principles. SLP can facilitate and manage the LEED certification process throughout the project, working closely with the project team and providing guidance on documentation, submittals, prerequisites and credit compliance to obtain certification at any level: Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum. Please contact us to discuss your specific project requirements.
