Guy Pomphrey
Affiliate, Remediation Specialist
BSc, MICE, CEng

Guy is an internationally recognised process based remediation specialist and is currently involved in two of the largest and most complex remediation projects being undertaken globally. These projects include the application of technologies including soil washing, thermal desorption, bioremediation and stabilisation on the 2.5 sq.km London 2012 Olympic Park site and 1 sq.km Avenue Coking Works site.

Guy was also the Project Manager responsible the remediation of Sir John Rogerson’s Quay Gasworks in Dublin, which involved the export and treatment of nearly 400,000t of soil using both soil washing and thermal desorption techniques. On the Olympic Park site approximately 1.3 million tonnes of soil needs to be cleaned of contamination including petrol, oil, tar, metals/metalloids, and sustainability considerations mean that 90% of the contaminated material needs to be recycled and reused on site. To this end two Soil treatment Centres containing numerous process based remediation technologies are being constructed on the site.

The Avenue Coking Works project involves the treatment of 200,000mof tar and entrained sediments, a 350,000m3 waste tip and 600,000m3 of impacted soils. Intensive pilot scale trials have been undertaken and it is currently anticipated that the remediation works will involve a combination of ex-situ soil washing, bioremediation and thermal desorption. Guy is currently the Managing Director of DEC UK Ltd and an approved SLP specialist affiliate.
