140 MW Hydropower Project, Kayah State, Myanmar
SLP Environmental was appointed as part of the larger project team to conduct and report the environmental; ecological and socioeconomic baseline surveys for a feasibility stage Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) study commissioned for a 140 MW hydropower project under consideration for Kayah State, Myanmar.
Desk studies identified the primary habitat types that would potentially be impacted as a consequence of the project and threatened species potentially present within the Project Site Area. Based on these preliminary studies, Dry and Wet Season ecological baseline surveys were designed, with a particular focus on identifying Ichthyology (fish), Botany (plants), Ornithology (birds) and Herpetofauna (reptiles & amphibians) present within the Projects Area of Influence (AOI).
The socio-economic environment in the Project Site Area was first characterised with reference to authoritative secondary data. Based on these desk studies, a baseline socioeconomic survey was designed to collect primary data from project affected communities. Methods included questionnaire surveys and focus group discussions with affected households and other stakeholders.
